Why Carniolan
We keep only Apis mellifera carnica — the grey bee native to Slovenia, protected there by law, and the only bee we have ever kept. It overwinters on small stores, builds explosively with the spring flow, and is famously gentle to work.
But we did not choose it for any of that. We are Slovenian, and keeping the Slovenian bee is a way of keeping the culture that came with it.
